Reno

Known as “The Biggest Little City in the World”, Reno, Nevada sits at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is famous for its casinos. Also known as the birthplace of the gaming giant Harrah’s, Reno was the gambling capital of the world up until the 1950s when it became eclipsed by the rise and popularity of Las Vegas. Because of its proximity to Northern California, Reno is a popular destination for visitors from the California Bay area and Sacramento. Visitors to the region also flock in from surrounding attractions such as Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake.

The Truckee River runs from Lake Tahoe through Reno and up to Pyramid Lake. Truckee Lake primarily draws in kayakers and rafters while the nearby Washoe lake caters to kite surfers and windsurfers due to the high wind velocities reached during the summer season. Visitors can stay at any number of hotels and casinos in the Reno area. Casinos such as the Fitzgerald, Circus Circus and Harrah’s Reno offer the convenience of both lodging and entertainment at a single location. Guests who enjoy gambling can try their hand at slots or table games such as blackjack or poker.

Also in the region are several shopping centers where visitors can scope out the latest deals on the hottest fashions. The Legends at Sparks Marina offers discount outlet style shopping while the Meadowood Mall boasts a selection of over 100 stores.
