Elko

Originally established as a city for railroad workers and their families, Elko, located in the north eastern area of Nevada is the nature enthusiast paradise. Adjacent to Interstate 80, Elko is surrounded by the Ruby Mountains and Lamoile canyon. Here guests can enjoy various outdoor activities including ATVing, fishing, hiking, rock climbing and cycling even to the extremes of Heli-skiing, all in the unspoiled territory of the true American West.

The beautiful landscape provides changing scenery throughout the year with snow capped mountains in the winter to sunny cloudless skies during summer. Winter activities in the region includes snowmobiling, sledding, ice fishing and cross country skiing while summer offers camping, off road vehicle trails, hunting and wildlife viewing. Elko is a city seemingly paused in time. Guests can experience the old Wild West culture on the American frontier, including Elko’s annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering, a week long event featuring poetry, film, music and art from those whose livelihood depends on caring for the land. Elko is also home to the Ruby Lake Wildlife Refuge where over 37,000 acres of land including marshes and ponds are home to over 200 species of birds and wildlife. In addition, South Fork State Recreation area provides ample space for those interested in water recreation.
